ActiveX controls are small apps that allow websites to provide content such as videos and games. They also let you interact with content like toolbars and stock tickers when you browse the web. However, these apps can sometimes malfunction, or give you content that you don't want. In some cases, these apps might be used to collect info from your PC, damage info on your PC, install software on your PC without your agreement, or let someone else control your PC remotely.
Internet Explorer might not be set up to download or run ActiveX controls for security reasons. Changing some advanced security settings will let you download, install, or run the control, but your PC might be more vulnerable to security threats. Only change advanced ActiveX settings if you're sure about increasing the level of risk to your PC.

Turning off this automatic download breaks the out-of-date ActiveX control blocking feature by not letting the version list update with newly outdated controls, potentially compromising the security of your computer. Use this configuration option at your own risk.

You can download the administrative templates, including the new settings, from the Administrative templates (.admx) for Windows 10 page or the Administrative Templates (.admx) for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 page, depending on your operating system.

Inventory your ActiveX controlsYou can inventory the ActiveX controls being used in your company, by turning on the Turn on ActiveX control logging in IE setting:
If you decide to inventory the ActiveX controls being used in your company by turning on the Turn on ActiveX control logging in IE setting, IE logs the ActiveX control information to the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AuditMode\VersionAuditLog.csv file.
For Windows 10 you also have the option to log your inventory info to a local WMI class. Info logged to this class includes all of info you get from the .csv file, plus the CLSID of the loaded ActiveX control or the name of any apps started from an ActiveX control.
For the first time you access the IP camera or DVR/NVR, the Internet Explorer (IE8, 9, 10) need to be installed with ActiveX plugin. The ActiveX plugin can allow browser receive the video streaming from these IP devices. If the installation of ActiveX bar doesn't pop-up, then you need to change three ActiveX controls in your Internet Setting of IE.
I've installed this in the past and it's worked without issue. When trying to connect to the DVR, if the ActiveX control isn't installed it tells you to download it and sends you to the file. Once you download it and run it in installs a small program and the ActiveX control. What I'm getting is the program is installing, but not the ActiveX so IE still won't open the site.
We have this issue with speco camera systems. All of the files needed are kept in cab files when the activex install comes up (at least for speco). I manually extract the cab files contents to a directory. Then run regsvr32 on all of the .dll files and the .ocx files in that directory(from a cmd window run as administrator). If you cannot identify the cab files - maybe you can find on the old machine.
Is the ActiveX control signed properly? If not, IE probably wouldn't allow the install unless you add the site to Trusted, and change some settings regarding how stringently IE checks ActiveX controls before allowing them to load. 2ff7e9595c
